Exfoliating is a great way to help prevent as well as remove ingrown hairs. If you’re prone to getting ingrown hairs then you should exfoliate the problem area every day or at least every other day using an exfoliating scrub, exfoliating body buffer or you could dry brush. This will get rid of any dead skin cells that are trapped in your hair follicles and will help prevent ingrown hairs from occurring. It will also help tease out any existing ingrown hairs so that you can pluck and remove them.
You can easily make your own homemade exfoliating scrub using this simple recipe. It uses just 3 ingredients: sugar, coconut oil and tea tree oil. The tea tree oil will help open your pores and loosen the ingrown hairs as well as bring down swelling and inflammation and the coconut oil is antibacterial and will hydrate and soften your skin too. The scrub can be used on all areas of the body including your legs, underarms and the bikini area.
- 1 cup white sugar
- 1/2 cup coconut oil
- 10 drops tea tree oil
- Put the sugar, coconut oil and tea tree oil into a bowl and mix thoroughly to form a paste. This exfoliating scrub can be used immediately or stored in a container for later use.
How to use:
- Apply the exfoliating scrub to the required area and rub it gently over your skin in all directions.
- Rinse off with warm water and pat your skin dry with a towel.
